Start for freeMexico hosts the most important book fair in the Spanish-speaking world: FIL Guadalajara, nine days in late November that draw publishers, authors and agents from everywhere. But the calendar does not end there. Between October and March come FIL Zócalo and FILIJ in Mexico City, Monterrey and Oaxaca in October, and FIL Palacio de Minería and Mérida's FILEY as the year begins.
Most are free and held in public spaces — the Zócalo, CENART, squares and university venues — with hundreds of free talks, workshops and signings. FIL Guadalajara is the ticketed exception, and the only one with professional-only days.
This page is updated whenever organisers publish new dates. If a fair shows as "dates not yet announced", it is because the date is not officially confirmed, not because it will not take place.
The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), at Expo Guadalajara, in late November and early December. It is the largest Spanish-language book fair in the world.
Most are: FIL Zócalo, FILIJ, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Palacio de Minería and FILEY are free to enter. FIL Guadalajara charges admission for the general public.
