How Portuguese book fairs work

In Portugal the book fair is a street tradition: open-air pavilions, free entry and a discount off cover price for the weeks it lasts. The largest is the Lisbon Book Fair, in Parque Eduardo VII, organised by APEL between late May and mid June.

Unlike other countries, there is no large professional rights fair: these are events for readers, with daily signings and publishers selling directly to the public.

This page is updated whenever organisers publish new dates. If a fair shows as "dates not yet announced", it is because the date is not officially confirmed, not because it will not take place.
