Everything you need to sort out questions about Niovela: how to reach us, how to report content or block someone, and how to take your data with you or delete it.
To tell us about a bug or an idea, tap “Tell us” (bottom right on the main tabs; on a computer, in the sidebar) or go to Settings → Feedback → “Send feedback”. It works without an account and we read everything, but that form gives us no way to reply to you.
If you need an answer, or your question is about your account, your data or your privacy, email us at privacy@niovela.com: it is our only email address. If it is about your account, tell us which email address you sign in with.
You can report other readers’ reviews, quotes, lists and profiles, with or without an account.
If someone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency services first.
You need an account to block someone: the block is saved to it and works on all your devices.
The block works between your two accounts. Anything you post publicly can still be seen by anyone browsing without signing in, including on the public book pages of niovela.com. If you don’t want anyone to see a review, make it private from the book page.
Go to Settings → Privacy → Blocked users, or tap “Unblock” on their profile. Follows that were undone don’t come back on their own.
You can delete your account and its data whenever you like, from the app or from the website. It happens right away and cannot be undone: if you want to keep a copy, download it first from Settings → Export history.
Without the app, open niovela.com/settings in any browser and follow the same steps, or email privacy@niovela.com from your account’s email address.
The privacy policy explains in full detail what is deleted and what is kept.
Settings → Export history offers two formats. JSON is a complete Niovela backup (library, reviews, quotes, lists, reading days and profile) that you can restore. CSV is a table of your library to open in a spreadsheet. It works without an account, and in the iOS and Android app the share menu opens so you can choose where to save it.
In Settings → Import from Goodreads or StoryGraph you can upload the CSV you export from Goodreads or StoryGraph, or a Niovela JSON backup. Niovela recognises the format on its own and adds what you bring to what you already have: it deletes nothing, and restoring the same backup twice doesn’t duplicate anything.
If you tick “Bring my lists and reviews too”, shelves with at least two books become private lists and your Goodreads or StoryGraph reviews come in as private: you decide which ones to publish.
The JSON backup is also how you move your library from one device to another without creating an account: export it on one and import it on the other.
Without an account, your library lives only on the device where you use it. With an account it is also saved on our servers and you have it on all your devices.
When you sign out you can choose: “Sign out” leaves your data on the device, and “Sign out and wipe this device” removes it from the device, although it stays in your account.
Yes, you can use all of it without paying anything.
No. Without an account you can log books, progress, reviews and quotes, and they are saved on your device. An account lets you have them on several devices, keep them if you change phones, publish reviews, follow other readers and share lists.
If you don’t have an account, yes: Safari can delete the data of a website you haven’t opened for seven days. To avoid it, create an account or add Niovela to your home screen.
Yes: you can view and edit your library, progress, reviews and quotes offline. Searching for books, syncing and seeing what other readers post need an internet connection; anything you change offline syncs when you are back online.
Without an account, nobody: they stay on your device. With an account, the reviews you write are public: to hide one, tap its “Public” label on the book page and it switches to “Private”. Imported reviews come in as private. Public reviews show on the book page and may appear in Explore and on the public book pages of niovela.com. In Settings → Privacy you decide whether your public profile shows your reviews, your quotes and who you follow.
English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Polish and Dutch. Change it in Settings → Languages, where you also choose which language you prefer for the books we recommend.
Search for its ISBN (the number above the barcode) or use “Scan ISBN”. If it isn’t the one you want, tap “Not the one you're looking for? Search more catalogues” below the results. And if it still doesn’t turn up, let us know.
On the sign-in screen, tap “Forgot your password? Get a sign-in link”: we email you a link to sign in without it.
